All the graphics in “Never a Week Goes By” were printed on fabric. There were several advantages to using fabric:
- It saved space when the exhibition was packed for touring
- Translucency could be used for some special effects
- It still looked good after touring to lots of venues
Opaque fabric (250gsm block out DS), printed by Displayschemes for the main text and photo banners. A removable metal rod was sewn in at the top and bottom of each banner to keep the fabric taut. The fabric still looks fine after numerous installations. No dented corners!
The monument images were printed onto a translucent banner, with an opaque white printed on the back to the shape of the monuments. This was then backlit to give the effect of the monuments standing against the sky. Printing by DAC.
Images from the statues and bronze reliefs on the monuments were printed onto translucent Polysilk (065, 53gsm) so they could be viewed from both sides.
Printed by Displayschemes, these caught the light beautifully. An elderly lady who was wheeled into the exhibition asleep, and then woke up amidst these banners was heard to say, “Oh, that’s so beautiful! Am I still in Balclutha?”
